A Message from our Founder, Denis Ross
If you are reading this you already know that this academic year will be an extraordinary one for both parents and their children. It is also patently clear that if your child is a senior, this school year is critical, especially if they aspire to attend a top tier college. Combined with the unusual circumstances surrounding COVID-19, learning and achieving will be even more difficult.
If your child is taking courses in US History and/or US Government and Politics, I can be of invaluable assistance. My credentials follow on this website, but I think it is beneficial that I briefly share some things about both my view and experience in tutoring and teaching bright high school students.
Along with the aforementioned background, I also have listed some accolades I have been fortunate enough to receive through my life and career. I would be disingenuous if I said these don’t please me, but they are not the essence of why I have taught and tutored. The satisfaction and pleasure of impacting young people’s lives and getting them to understand the importance of learning about history and government is very meaningful to me, and lest I belabor the point, some of the comments of former students can be found on Rate My Professor.com when I taught 2 courses at Passaic County Community College.
I have never lobbied in my classroom for one political party or candidate and never will. I make every attempt to provide students with a clear understanding of history/politics and to relate the importance of them to their lives. Long ago I began doing that with my daughter who now teaches literature (not history!) in New York, and that seems to have worked out fine for my wife, our daughter, her family, and me. If the courses students take are being taught properly in school, there should be a global sense, not only historically, but culturally and politically. Presumably, most students work will be essay writing, and I’ll help student’s learn to significantly improve their writing skills. I will not write their papers, but will edit them, not just for grammar and syntax, but often even more importantly, for content, structure, research, logical development, and conclusions. I am hopeful that when we together succeed, they will not only excel in their classrooms, but will also be prepared for the SAT (if they are taking them again), and the Advanced Placement Exam, as well as for their forthcoming college career.
